39 things I’m hoping to do before 40 (39 not 40 because I’m extra like that!!)

cup that says the adventure beginsI know it’s February, but Happy New Year. I guess I can say that because Its my blog and I can do what I like!! Its 2020, it’s a new decade and I have personally named this year, the year of balance. I decided that this year was going to be more about balancing out the uneven things in my life. This year is also about enhancing my life as well. Have you ever felt like everyone and everything has received the best parts of you, except for you? That’s how I felt last year. I can’t pour from empty, my spiritual and physical both need to be taken care of at all times

Let’s flashback to my 2019 for a quick recap…

In short, last year I was super busy, and spread so thinly, I didn’t have time to think about my personal growth. A lot happened last year, we bought our first home, organised and took young people from church to youth camp. I also returned to work after 12 month maternity leave. Notice how my last post was about returning to work…well that kind of killed my blog dreams and creativity.Things at work got so busy, so stressful and the team of 3 I worked in became a team of 2 for months. Workload and stress levels on high for what seemed like forever. I was drained after being at work, it zapped any sparks of creativity I may have had. I had intentions of working on my blog, but they remained ideas that didn’t materialise. If I’m honest, I wasn’t in the right mind space to do anything else except pour into work. That’s all I felt I could do at the time. As a result, I lacked balance. Towards the end of last year, I started reclaiming my time by doing things that would benefit me. It was definitely a rough season, but a place where I was able to learn and grow. Things had to change and they could only do so if I changed.

Issa Bucket list

Today is my birthday! So thankful, for God adding yet another year to my life. This is my last year in my 30’s and I’m not mad, It’s been a movie! If anything, I can’t believe it has come around so quickly! I, along with my family, have achieved so much in the past 9 years, so it hasn’t been all doom and gloom 😂 40 is the next chapter in my life and instead of setting a list of goals for this year. I have decided to create a bucket list.  The list is made up of 39 things I would like to do before I’m 40. A bucket list if you will. A new decade demands new adventures so let’s do this!!party balloons, birthday cupcakes and to do post it noteThis post will form part of a series, and I’ll let you know how I’m getting on over the next year. Maybe I’ll do all 39 things, maybe I won’t!! But I will definitely make sure a majority of the list is ticked off! It’s important for me to cover a number of areas.Without further ado, the nominations for bucket list categories are as follows(cue drum roll)

  • Personal development
  • Adventure
  • Health and fitness
  • Quick wins and easy gains
  • Introduce a new recipe/bake something on a monthly basis
  • Entertainment and recreation

It would be a bit premature for me to to have all 39 things listed. I may discover I want to try new things later on in the year. I could actually list 10 things, but the post would be too long. So here are my first five things I would like to accomplish by the time I’m 40.

Gym 3 times a week

In September, I decided to start taking my health seriously. I became a slimming world member and started going to the gym. After returning to work, I put on a significant amount of weight. My love for food, wasn’t really going to disappear overnight so I changed the way I eat and got my butt in the gym. I currently do a double gym class on Monday and a class on Saturday. I would like to increase this to 3 times a week.

Run 5k

My sister in law randomly decided she was going to run a half marathon last year and she did it! Not only did she do it, she’s running another in a few weeks!!! Just so you know, I’m not running any type of marathon. I respect myself and my life, also baby steps lol. My company organises an annual 10k charity run. When I first started working here, a colleague and I said we would do it. Nearly 8 years later, still not done it…still not doing it! However, this year, they are doing a 5k alongside the 10k, I’m doing that!I’ve been taking part in a 30 day fitness challenge that finishes on my birthday. When I tell you it’s been grueling, I’m not lying. I thought I hated burpees, it’s actually planks i hate. If being specific, its side to side planks I hate, I really really hate those. Great results though, still hate them! I’ve downloaded the couch to 5k app and will start using it in the not to distant future.

Start a Podcast

So my mate Steph and I spoke about doing a podcast last year, but we were both being a bit long about it! This year we are being intentional and will definitely be out the the pod-es-sphere in the not too distant future. Follow my socials for updates

Post regularly on my blog

This should really go without saying really! I really dropped the ball here, but I’m willing to recommit. This is something I really enjoy doing and if only one person reads it and is entertained, it makes me happy. I’m not going to say how many times I’m going to post, but it will be more frequent than never! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Getting my read on

The aim is to read a minimum of 2 books a month. I love reading and my 90 minute sometimes 120 minute commute to and from work, gives me that time. I am currently reading ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ by Emma Dabiri. The aim is to finish that by the end of next week and start my next book. I picked up reading again late last year and my love for reading was brought to life again. I have been mixing it up with non fiction and fiction. Read some amazing books last year, Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race by Reni Eddo-Lodge. Both brilliant, well written books. Don’t judge a book by its cover, Eddo-Lodge’s book has a controversial title, but if you open it and have a read you will see it’s a book for EVERYONE. Just in case you didn’t hear me, EVERYONE!!!! It is most definitely an important must read, especially with how things are at the moment in the UK.

Hoping you will join me on my adventures as I travel from the land of 39 to fabulous 40! If you have any ideas of things I can add to my list, let me know in the comments.

Until next time
